Only The Lonely

Is there a movie where John Candy was the main actor that did not make you laugh out loud? This is not an exception to that rule. The man had such subtle wit and could deliver a line in the most hillarious way, God rest his soul.

In this story his mother makes a good candidate for mother-in-lawhood. She is controlling and a bit selfish in that she doesn't see her sons need to have his own life.

Each time John Candy tries to let go he has thoughts that something terrible will happen to his mother. His mother comes across as a completely controlling and insensitive person who we soon learn to dislike. We of course feel completely sorry for her son and hope he finds someone and runs away with her.

As a police officer who knows everyone, he finally takes advantage of his position in very creative ways and meets the woman of his dreams. But can he keep her? Will his mother let him go?

All I want to say is...watch this and enjoy it. If I tell you the whole story, it will spoil it for you.

If you don't laugh out loud when you watch this movie, come back and give me 10 negatives...I am that confident you will enjoy this movie. It is a bit long in some places, but the laughs are completely worth it.

Delirious

When I first saw this movie I was a little too young to grasp what was going on. I later rediscovered it on DVD, and thoroughly enjoyed it!

If you've ever awakened and found yourself in a Lucid Dream, then you'll have some kind of idea what you're in for when seeing this movie. Imagine awaking to find yourself on the set of the soap opera that you write for, only it's not a set, it's become REAL! And imagine being able to use your typewrite to write anything into existance! Need a taxi? Write one approachers your house, and go outside to get in.

A wonderful fantasy! Now if I can just get these black bars off my tv, on channels 2 and 7! And if you're looking for an italian version of this, just do a little research for a movie titled "Fuori Di Testa." The Italian dubs are great! :)

Cool Runnings

Everytime I watch Cool Runnings, I still feel the magic and excitement of the first time I watched it. This movie is exceptional. Everything about it works.
The acting is powerful, the story is both exciting and moving, the comedy is fresh and enjoyable, and the soundtrack is perfectly suited to support the mood of the movie.
Cool Runnings is a perfect family film. People of all ages will be drawn to it and enjoy cheering for the Jamaican Bobsled team. There is some mild use of profanity, but it can be overlooked in favor of the moving story, and the morals that children will pick up along with it. Cool Runnings shows the value of pride, tolerance, and persistance.
Throughout the course of the movie we see the team prove to the world through their persistance that they are just as good as any other team, regardless of where they come from. They learn to become a team, learn to take pride in their culture, and do a lot of self discovery.
This movie is one of the few that is sure to touch you and to uplift your spirit.

Nothing But Trouble

I'm probably gonna get cyber slapped for this but I actually like this movie and own the DVD. It's funny, weird, creepy, entertaining and has some of my favorite people in it like Dan Akroyd, John Candy, Chevy Chase and even a small appearance by 2Pac and the Digital Underground who perform their hit song "Same Song" and do a goofy mini wedding song. I just love this movie. I laughed so much and just couldn't stop staring at the face of that old geezer Shire-Reeve. Chevy Chase makes all kinds of one liners. I like Chevy from the National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation movie. This movie is deffinitely weird but good and entertaining! As far as the DVD itself it doesn't have any special features at all and doesn't even have a menu it just starts playing the movie when you pop it in the player. The DVD has sharp/clear picture and sound and is full screen which I prefer.

Stripes

John Candy did an awesome job in this movie also.

Nope! It's NOT just the same movie - simply put:
You haven't actually seen Bill Murray's 'STRIPES' until you obtain this 2005 re-release DVD!

The bonus scenes featured DOES INDEED answer various inquiries we once had re this comedy:
e.g. - why are those 2 guys ALONE sitting against the EM-50 in Italy before they take it for a spin?....and when in Germany Russell flat-out refuses to rescue the captured troops with the other three in the EM-50, what made him change his mind? - (to mention a few)..

Another one of the deleted scenes is the (talked-about) 7-minute "South America" segment
where we DO see another side of Harold Ramis - while Murray is truly hilarious!

A BETTER print with superior STEREO 5.1 dolby sound now vs the previous mono DVD, including a great feature in two parts -"Stars & Stripes" - that will leave you dazzled in understanding this entire film: how it was made, rare image stills, and how the actors (a good number of them)
felt in doing the film along with Murray himself, being interviewed from of all places - TOKYO!

This new DVD gives you 2 movie options:
1.) the EXTENDED version featuring the deleted scenes-
(with added option of audio commentary from the director and head writer)
2.) the ORIGINAL theatrical version-
*BOTH WS*

There's also the option of seeing all SIX bonus scenes - one after the other -

The EXTENDED version does a fine editing job inserting the deleted scenes at the right places,
- even indicating (via small permanent text) where these bonus scenes START and END -
-an extremely smooth flow minus any pauses or audio dropouts...

However on this strange ORIGINAL version, there ARE crude pauses/slight audio drops only at the marks where the deleted scenes were MEANT to be placed (or were previously removed),
it's as if they didn't (wouldn't or couldn't) simply EMPLOY the main original print for this DVD -
-unsmooth/choppy at these marks, esp when the guys drive to Germany and meet the girls -

e.g. - Murray hugs P.J. Soles with the line: "I Brought The Magic Suitcase"..
- That very scene literally disappears - thus disappoints on this ORG version -

One Major Blunder:
A bonus scene w/P.J. Soles (there's MORE of her) & Murray in a hotel bedroom from Germany
is in fact the EXACT same bedroom set in a PREVIOUS short scene where she pulls Bill out of the trunk at General Barnacy's house; When you compare the two you'll believe they intended this to be START of the 'Barnacy Bedroom' segment..

Wagons East

This was a great film. One of John Candy's last movies, and he was working on it when he passed. This is a must for your collection.

It's about a wagon train that heads back east, because the settlers have had enough of the wild west. It's one of my favorite movies with John.Full of laughs, and an odd sense of humor at times that made my belly just burst in laughter.

Get,borrow,or buy this movie. It's worth watching!!

Uncle Buck

In this cheerful, lightweight comedy, excruciatingly clumsy, disorganized, and messy Uncle Buck Russell (John Candy) becomes the screens most unlikely babysitter since Clifton Webb in Sitting Pretty. While their parents are away, eight-year old Miles (Macaulay Culkin), six-year old Maizy (Gaby Hoffman) and their teen-aged sister, Tia (Jean Kelly) are left in the care of Buck. Surprisingly, the very inept Uncle Buck entertains the younger children who come to love him and earns the respect of Tia when he rescues her from her worthless boyfriend. However, in doing so, Buck nearly loses his long-time girlfriend Chanice (Amy Madigan). John Candy is delightful in the leading role giving a touching and notable comic performance. Directed by John Hughes in his typical broad style, this youth-oriented comedy is perhaps the best role of John Candy's regrettably brief career.

Who's Harry Crumb

I loved this movie.I think it's one of John Candys best films ever.A detective without a clue that manages to destroy just about everything he touches while he stumbles through. Harry Crumb is one of John Candy's classics, from the slap stick humor to the disguises. Ya gotta watch this movie.I have it in my collection, and like I said. It's the best!!

The Great Outdoors

I adore "The Great Outdoors". This is one of my favorite John Candy movies of all time. Yeah it is no Shakespeare but I wouldn't have it any other way. Dan Ackroyd plays the obnoxious brother-in-law who crashes John Candy's family vacation up in the woods at a cozy little resort. Dan brings his neglected wife played by Annette Benning and their identical twin daughters who are bit on the scary side. The results is a non-stop laugh riot. No many how many times I have watched this film, I still find myself laughing uncontrollably, especially when the raccoons comes out at night to raid the trash cans. I loved it when the young raccoon is told what hot dogs are made of. Anyone familiar with Doug Seuss's bears would know that this is one of the films that the late Bart the Bear made as the bald-headed bear. I loved the final interaction between John Candy's character and the bald-headed bear. It is one of the funniest scenes in the film, next to the water-skiing scene. One of the classic moments in the film is when the entire family goes out to dinner and John Candy decides to order the ol' 96er (this enormous chunk of beef). I personally love "The Great Outdoors". It remains one of my favorite movies from the '80s. It is pure physical comedy.

Planes Trains and Automobiles

A stellar performance from Steve Martin and the late, great John Candy.
I don't know where that guys doing the Editorial Reviews are coming from, this movie is great!
Steve Martin is stuffy ad executive Neil "I can take anything" Page and John Candy is the bungling but warm-hearted shower-curtain-ring guy (I know what you mean), Del "Extra set of fingers" Griffith. We follow this mismatched pair half way across the States and back again as they encounter one crisis after another. As the title says, our heros travel whatever way they can to get to Chicago- from planes to trains to cars.
One of the funniest scenes is when after Del gets his coat caught behind the driver's seat, panics and sends the car on a tailspin causing him to go the wrong way down the Interstate. We see their car get caught between two semis. During the squeeze, Neil looks and sees Del as the Devil, complete with pitchfork and horns.
In all, this movie is great! You will not be disappointed, that I can promise you because it's "filled with helium, which makes it 10% lighter."

Armed & Dangerous

This was a pretty good movie.Full of laughs, action, and suspence.John Candy was one of the funniest actors of all time. What a shame that his life was cut so short. There are no comedies like this one and all his others (Uncle Buck, Only the Lonely, Cool Runnings and so on) How lucky we are to have been entertained by him.
